Save the Children House of Refuge was founded in August of 1993. It was established and licensed on May 25, 1995. This maternity home for unwed mothers in crisis situations opened its doors to the first mother-to-be on June 10, 1995.
The ministry of Save the Children was established after Pastor Sylvia Keller received a vision from God on November 22, 1992. In the vision, the Lord instructed her to save His babies. He told her that they were dying by the millions and He was holding the Christians responsible for allowing these deaths to take place.
In this vision, Pastor Keller saw the detail of the first home and the name that the ministry would be given. The Lord commanded that this home of refuge must be built immediately for His babies and their mothers. This visitation from God consumed her. She was compelled to move in faith to give these mothers-to-be an alternative to abortion and place of refuge, a home where they would receive love and protection for themselves and their unborn children.
In just a short time, the Lord blessed the ministry with two additional houses. One is currently being used as an administrative building and the other as a second maternity home. In 1999, the second maternity home was established. This home was licensed and began operation in June 2000.
Since our opening in 1995, a total of 106 healthy, beautiful babies have been born through this ministry. Many of these babies would have been aborted if it were not for this loving and nurturing environment in which these mothers could rely on for the safety of their unborn.
